Landscape Architecture Designer
DeVries Design and Landscape, LLC
Current Shop: Westfield, IN | New Shop Starting November 2021: Sheridan, IN
Design, estimate and sell profitable projects to help our clients utilize their yards in new and creative ways.
DeVries Design and Landscape is looking for a designer to help drive our mission forward—to give more people a backyard they love. We are a small business that is growing, and we are looking to add a landscape designer to our team who can design, create estimates, and work directly with homeowners. Your goal is to connect with Indianapolis homeowners and create profitable, beautiful designs that help our clients live their lives to the fullest in a backyard they love.
You will handle all aspects of design from scoping, measuring, CAD design and approving 3D models that are presented in person to our clients. The ideal candidate is creative, can think outside the box, is trustworthy, has integrity, and is outgoing and personable.
We serve clients in the Indianapolis area, mainly on the North side of Indy. This position would report to the Indy shop location, with opportunities to flex work from home.
Duties
Hold in-person meetings to understand homeowners goals, photograph their property and take measurements.
Meet with potential clients to sell design packages based on our 3-tier model of small, medium, or large size projects.
Create CAD and 3D designs for clients within a reasonable time frame (1-2 weeks)
Design structures including (but not limited to) paver patios, retaining walls, fire pits, decks, pergolas, landscape lighting, plantings, etc.
Create estimates for your design, build out proposals/estimates.
Present proposals, designs and 3D flythrough models to clients at their homes.
Revise your design and adjust estimates based on client feedback within a reasonable time frame to give them a design they love.
Help clients through the design process with the goal to sign a build proposal for 50% of design projects.
Experience
A qualified candidate must have basic auto CAD knowledge and basic 3D modeling knowledge. (Univision is a 3D software specific to our industry, Univision experience is not required if some experience with other 3D modeling platforms).
A practical and basic understanding of how structures are built and constructed is required, and a knowledge of how to create designs with set structures is required. Knowledge of landscape structures is preferred, but a general understanding of how things are built and constructed is required. A qualified candidate will not need to know how to build, but they will need to know the principles of what goes into building structures so they can create designs that can be built.
Estimation and budgeting ability are a key part of this role, so you can understand what things cost to create profitable designs.
A Landscape Architecture Degree is highly recommended, but on-the-job experience doing similar work will be considered.
The ideal candidate is friendly, generally likeable, trustworthy, an excellent communicator, and has integrity. We are looking for someone who wants the opportunity to get out from behind the desk and present their creations to clients. A designer for our company will have the freedom to design without formulas or adhering to a specific style, meaning the creative possibilities are endless!
Our company offers opportunities for growth and development. We provide leadership training using the Business Made Simple University platform where Designers will have the opportunity to advance their skills and knowledge of how to grow a small business, understand their role in helping the business become more profitable, and strengthen their leadership skills. Future opportunities include profit sharing, growth and development of a design team, design team leadership position, and more.
